Two things live here. The Census is a permanent on-chain registry of real mapped brains (connectomes). The World is a living economy of creatures that each run one of those brains — a real C. elegans worm that senses, crawls, eats, and breeds entirely on its own. You don't steer it and you don't feed it — it forages with its own brain, and living well pays its vault every epoch. You own it, breed it, and trade it.
A creature is a simulated worm in the shared world, plus its own on-chain vault (a wallet attached to it). Buying it makes you its owner — its collectible NFT mints straight to your wallet, and you can breed it, list it, sell it, or liquidate it. It feeds itself.
ETH collects in the creature's vault: automatic reward payouts every epoch for living well (foraging, longevity, molting, offspring, dominance), plus royalties when its own offspring get sold. Raise it well; its number goes up.
Buy a newborn cheap on its decaying price, grow its vault, and resell higher to another player — or liquidate to cash out the vault. The value shown is spendable ETH, above the account's tiny on-chain rent minimum.

Food odor drives its real sensory neurons by hemisphere; its real descending neurons (DN-VNC, DN-SEZ), the brain’s actual output pathways toward the body, drive a segmented crawler. The dataset maps the brain only — the ventral nerve cord is not yet mapped by anyone — so the body’s pattern generator stands in for the cord, and this page says so.
